We’re a technology licensing company that enables plastic compounders to access new markets and innovate, plastic converters to manufacture bio-based, biodegradable, and bio-neutral plastic, and brand owners to satisfy the end-users’ demand for ‘greener’ plastics.

Our purpose is to help mankind ‘enjoy plastics guilt-free’. That’s why we acquired in 2014 the patented BIOPAR® Technology, which enables producing GuiltfreePlastics™. Our products are based, up to 90%, on renewable materials, and can be – if required – 100% biodegradable at the same time.

Technically our bioplastics could replace 90% of today’s polyethylene applications. Therefore, our vision is ‘to make BIOPAR® the world’s standard for the production and innovation in the area of starch-based bioplastics’.

Mendes Ferreira Chief Executive Officer

Mendes Ferreira, born in 1966, is co-founder of United Biopolymers, S.A. and has been Chief Executive Officer since the company’s inception in 2015. He is also Chief Executive Officer of United Resins, S.A, which he co-founded in 2008. Due to his background, Mendes is responsible for production, research and development, partner relationship management, as well as health and safety. He holds a Masters degree in Industrial Chemistry from Coimbra University. He is married with three children and resides with his family in Coimbra.

Rui Santos Executive Director
Rui Santos Executive Director

Rui Santos, born in 1973, joined the board of directors as a non-executive director on the date of the company’s inception. Rui is also a co-founder of our sister company United Resins, S.A., where he holds the position of Chief Commercial Officer and Member of the Board since 2011. Prior to this he worked for nearly a decade as Commercial Director of Euro-Yser Produtos Quimicos, S.A. He holds a university degree from Universidade Europeia (formerly known as ISLA) in Strategic Organisation and Human Resources Management. Living with his long-term partner and father of two, he resides near Lisbon.

At United Group we’re a green chemicals company. Both our business units produce green chemicals for a sustainable world: One gum rosin resin derivatives, and the other a compatibiliser for starch-based bioplastics.

 

 

 

United Resins S.A., founded in 2008, is a gum rosin resin derivatives developer, producer, and marketer. Its plant in Figueira da Foz is the world’s most modern and efficient plant of its kind. This means that the company is able to produce high quality derivatives at a very competitive price. Its main customers are from the adhesive, ink, and chewing gum markets.
